The Executive Mayor of Rustenburg Cllr Mpho Khunou had on Thursday, 1st of February 2018 attended the funeral of the late Mr Gareth Roberts from Rustenburg who was killed by robbers at the Rustenburg Waterfall Mall over the previous weekend.
As part of the Rustenburg Local Municipality’s “Clean and Safe City Campaign”, whose intend is to fight crime and ensure environmental cleanliness, the Mayor is persistently trumpeting the message of war against crime. This crime incident comes at a time when the municipality intensifies its resolve to fight the scourge of crime mushrooming in the city.
The Mayor was disturbed by the untimely death of this young man who was shot and killed as he was assisting a member of the community against criminals. Cllr Mpho Khunou encouraged the community of Rustenburg to work together against crime.
On behalf of the municipality and the community of Rustenburg, the Mayor (Accompanied by members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs), Councillors, Pastors, municipal staff and other stakeholders) conveyed heartfelt condolences to the Roberts’ family, describing Gareth’s death as a terrible loss to the community of Rustenburg.
