The position of the Municipal Manager for Rustenburg Local Municipality has been vacant for a while. To ensure quality service delivery to residents, the Municipality intends to fill in the position by conducting interviews openly to members of the public and media in the spirit of openness and transparency, for the first time in the history of municipalities in South Africa.

Floods disaster in Rustenburg – Municipality rescues residents

 Rustenburg: Following heavy rains that have been received in the past few days in the Rustenburg Municipality in particular and the entire country in general, resulting in floods, there have been recorded cases of houses being flooded, roof tops collapsing, cars being swept away by overflows on the roads , trees falling on the roads, people drowning, resulting in fatalities and in need of accommodation, amongst others. In this regard, the Rustenburg Local Municipality has summoned an emergency joint operation team, based at the Joint Operation Centre(JOC), comprising of all relevant affected stakeholders, with the objective to assessing the extent of damage and need in all its 45 Wards and responding appropriately. So far, extensive floods and damages have been recorded in the following communities: • The city and its immediate environs, namely; sub-urban areas, CBD and the Industria. • Tlhabane • Ramochana • Sunrise Park • Paardekraal • Meriting • Boshoek • Rietvlei • Robega It is anticipated that by 12:00 noon today (22 February 2017), a comprehensive and credible data would have been collated and consolidated, which will then help the Municipality in responding appropriately to the needs of affected communities. In the meantime, the Rustenburg Local Municipality has supplied blankets to some needy communities. Donations and any kind of assistance from various business organisations, NGO’s, CBO’s, government departments and individuals will be much appreciated in this time of need. This joint emergency contingency plan is anticipated to last up to next week. Municipal leadership inauguration ends well at Dienie Estates Rustenburg

The municipal political leadership inauguration and hundred (100) program which started on 8 November 2016 and ended 16 November 2016, may be described in one word: “successful”. It was successful in the sense that residents flocked to venues in their hundreds if not thousands, to meet and greet their leaders with joy and happiness. The campaign was mirrored on an outreach to communities introducing leadership of the municipality as well as thanking them for their participation in the October local government elections. “We are going to be doing things differently in this five-year term, to ensure quality service to you, thus making Rustenburg Local Municipality effective and efficient. We have made it clear to all municipal employees that anyone who is not prepared to serve you will have to make way for others who want to serve you with passion. That is why members of the Mayoral Committee even furnish you with their own cell phone numbers to demonstrate that we mean what we say. Please support your respective Ward Councillors by attending Ward meetings, so that you are kept abreast of latest developments in your ward”, said Executive Mayor, Cllr Mpho Khunou in his speech, to loud applause of residents in approval. Various members of the mayoral committee took to the podium to give a brief overview of their portfolios and plans for the next five years. End.

Lekgalong leadership inauguration and 100 hundred days a huge success

Residents of Wards 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 44 and 45 came in their thousands and filled the community sport grounds to capacity on Tuesday, the 15th November 2016 to listen to what their political leaders had to say to them as the whole Mayoral Committee, including Speaker of Council and Single Whip of Council, were being introduced to them and the first hundred days in office was being outlined. “We have resolved as the leadership that we are going to do things differently in the current term to ensure effective service delivery. We are starting with filling in of critical senior posts, namely; Municipal Manager, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Directors and much needed technical staff to deal effectively with burning issues of water loss, burst pipes, potholes and revenue enhancement, thus making sure that the municipality is run efficiently and effectively. I am going to request all members of the Mayoral Committee including Ward Councillors to take the podium and give you their contact numbers so that you do not struggle to access them to report your developmental challenges in your respective wards. We mean business this time around with serving you. We have made it clear to municipal employees who are not prepared to work or serve you diligently, that they are going to have to make way for others who want to serve you”, said Executive Mayor, cllr Mpho Khunou, to the roaring applause of residents from thirteen (13) wards of the municipality. Collaborative March Against Crime

The Rustenburg Local Municipality in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, namely; Civic Movements, South African Police Service, government departments, security agencies, women organisations, youth organisations and concerned residents, will on Saturday, 27th August 2016, embark on a collaborative march to express a clear concern about various crime demons that bedevil our society, such as, drugs, human trafficking, armed robbery, abuse of women and children.
