The Rustenburg Local Municipality is embarking on a city-wide Agricultural Development Support Programme following the Council approval of the programme on 29th May 2018.
The municipality has identified and prioritised farms within the jurisdiction of Rustenburg that require urgent intervention and has so far approved eighteen (18) farmers applications and managed to procure the recommended support material for two farms already in Rietvlei and Boekenhoutfontein. The municipality does not only provide material support to these farms but also continues with hands-on support including installation of supplied materials and resources on site.
The Agricultural Development Support Programme is a comprehensive programme aimed at supporting small, emerging, and commercial local farmers to unlock the agricultural sector potential. The programme aims to attract the support from key stakeholders in the public and private sector and to ensure leveraging of resources.
While the programme is targeted at addressing challenges encountered by small and emerging farmers which discourage them from becoming productive and sustainable, it also enables them to operate independently even after the support has ended.
