Rustenburg: The Rustenburg Local Municipality is in the fore-front of an aggressive anti- women and children abuse campaign, marked by a series of marches, as seen happening during the weekends of 10 and 17 June 2017, at various venues around Rustenburg.
The campaign so far proves to be not only popular but successful as witnessed by high attendance of political leadership, namely; Executive Mayor, MMC’s and Ward Councillors, Senior Managers from Municipality and business, members of community policing forum, motor-cyclists and the broader civil society.
“We are doing this in collaboration with other security clusters, such as, police and security companies and many other stakeholders, so as to maximize participation, buy-in and positive outcomes. We are confident that indeed the campaign is fully established given the positive response by residents. Slowly but surely we are getting there, when we shall have eliminated this evil scourge of abuse against women and children in our society. This is the objective of this campaign”, said Executive Mayor, Cllr Mpho Khunou, during the march on Saturday, 17th June 2017, starting from taxi and bus rank, across the CBD up to Olympia Park stadium. Last week’s one was staged in Tlhabane.
