Development priorities and objectives

2005/2006 IDP Priorities and Objectives

1. Financial Viability   

  • To practice sound and sustainable financial management.
  • To promote a culture of payment for services.
  • To enhance and optimise all current and potential revenue
    resources.
  • To ensure an effective internal audit service.

 

2. Infrastructure Development and Access to Basic 
Services

  • To maintain and upgrade the level of existing services to meet
    the required standards.
  • To ensure provision of free basic services to all indigent
    households.
  • To ensure effective provision of basic services to all
    communities.
  • To ensure that projects are sustainable.
  • To facilitate affordable quality services
  • To develop new infrastructure in partnership with other spheres
    of government, business, parastatals and international
    institutions.

3.         Social Development, HIV/AIDS, Youth, Children,  Women and People with

Disabilities

  • To ensure social development of communities.
  • To provide a comprehensive Primary Health Care.

  • To manage traffic and public transport

    development opportunities and product. 
  • To promote local economic development and job creation for local residents
    through SMMEs, tourism and capital projects undertaken within the municipal
    area.
  • To advance the course of local businesses to procurement opportunities available
    in the industries.
  • To promote intercultural and interregional relationships through social activities.
  • To maximise private sector investment and facilitate partnerships.
  • To promote the development of entrepreneurial skills in the management of
    economic development.
  • To support BEE as part of economic development.
  • To create conditions conducive to entrepreneurial activity and investment

5. Spatial Restructuring

  • To ensure spatial reconstruction and land-use management.
  • To ensure sustainable environment management and protection.
  • To facilitate finalization of land restitution and redistribution claims and tenure
    reform.

6. Housing

  • To accelerate housing delivery.
  • To facilitate housing development.

7. Disaster and Risk Management

  •  To ensure provision of adequate disaster management and emergency services.

 

8. Institutional Viability and Transformation
